This November's sponsored firewalk follows on the success of last year's Hospice of St Francis Sponsored Firewalk Event. In conjunction with The Peace Hospice and Watford Football Club, over ten thousand pounds in sponsorship monies was raised!
This year's event plans to capitalise on last year's incredible achievement and we hope to make it even bigger and better than ever!
The fact that Aidy Boothroyd, the manager of Watford Football Club along with over forty of his premier league players participated in last year's firewalk (prior to the main evening event) and gave a large donation to The Hospice of St Francis and The Peace Hospice is both testament to the high levels of safety and professionalism the firewalking company Time4Change employs and the quality of their motivational training.
The event was so unusual and newsworthy that The Sun newspaper featured it on the front page of their sporting section and on their website. To view the page and read what they wrote simply follow this link.
In addition to coverage in the national press, The Watford Observer filmed last year's event and made a short three minute video of the evening's proceedings. If you missed out on either participating or supporting last year's sponsored firewalk event you can now watch the video for yourself below and perhaps imagine yourself as one of the participants in the walk.
Feel the adrenaline flowing through your body with the sound of the crowd cheering in your ears as you see the anticipation and excitement rise in the faces of your fellow participants. Then, as you take your first step across the lane imagine the deep satisfaction from knowing your extraordinary achievement has helped The Hospice of St Francis raise much needed funds.
Note: Sometimes, due to high bandwidth demands, the video can take a few moments to load. If this is the case, press the pause button and wait until it reads 100%
Watching the excitement and energy of a sponsored firewalking event invariably makes people want to find out more about the art and science of firewalking; it's history, how it is possible and what happens on the actual night of an event. With this in mind, the events company Time4Change have compiled a frequently asked questions document which can be read on-line follow this link or you can download the document through the link (FAQ) at the bottom of the page.
Once you have imagined just how good it will feel to take part in The Hospice of St Francis Sponsored Firewalk Event, all you have to do to ensure your place on the walk is contact Helen Satterthwaite at the above number/email or alternatively you can instantly download the application and other forms at the bottom of the page, print them off and return them to the address provided.
How much do I need to raise so I can participate in this event?
Places for the Firewalk are limited so The Hospice of St Francis is asking everyone to raise a minimum of £150 in order to participate (but obviously we encourage you to raise far more!). If you have any difficulties collecting money before the event, we will accept a personal cheque (made payable to The Hospice of St Francis). These cheques can be post-dated up to a month after the event, allowing you enough time to collect any outstanding sponsorship.
We provide you with a firewalking DVD to show potential sponsors and information sheets, posters (to put up for example on your workplace notice board) and sponsor forms are available from the buttons at the bottom of the page. We also suggest you direct your sponsors to this web page and the video through emails or mobile texts (just copy the URL "http://www.t4c.org.uk/stfrancis") so they can see for themselves exactly what you are undertaking in aid of The Hospice of St Francis).
Not only is this a once in a lifetime experience, compared to other ‘extreme’ events such as sponsored parachuting or trekking abroad, both the amounts you are required to raise and the initial costs are far lower (which means a bigger percentage of what you raise goes straight to The Hospice of St Francis). Firewalking is such an ‘unusual’ activity that people are not only more willing to sponsor an individual who is taking part in a fundraising firewalk; they are far more likely to offer higher levels of sponsorship.
