THE PEACE HOSPICE & HOSPICE OF ST FRANCIS FIREWALK NOV 2007
On Thursday 22nd November 2007 over £10,000 was raised for the Peace Hospice & Hospice of St Francis as more than 100 people carried out a firewalk on behalf of both charities. Temperatures over 1200* Fahrenheit didn't stop the brave firewalkers achieve the ultimate test of mind over matter across two 20ft tracks of hot burning coals. Big Brother stars Nicky Maxwell and Tracey Barnard also undertook the walk on behalf of the Peace Hospice. Nicky, a regular supporter of the hospice commentated "It was fantastic! I was really excited about doing the walk, but got a bit nervous as we lined up. Fortunately, the adrenaline kicked in & I flew across. I even went back for a second time and did it all over again." One of the Hospice's older walkers Sandra Churchill said
'We had a motivational training session before we started and I really felt ready to do the walk. When I got outside and saw the big crowd and saw the burning coals and heard the drums going, I didn't know if I could do it as I got all nervous. I'm not sure how I managed to do it but I did and was really happy when I finished. It was a great atmosphere amongst all the fire walkers. I would definitely do it again!"
Corporate Development Manager for the Peace Hospice, Maggie Grand who organised the event said
'It was a fantastic evening and everyone came through the walk unscathed. We had a large crowd that turned up to support the firewalkers, with fire jugglers and drummers making it a great atmosphere! I am extremely grateful to everyone who carried out the walk on behalf of the Hospice as it has helped to raise vital funds for us.'
