Movement for Learning and Life
MOVE uses the combined knowledge of education, therapy and their families to teach
severely disabled children and adults the skills of sitting, standing, walking and transferring to the very best of their ability.
MOVE is currently being used in over 300 schools, adult training centres, hospital departments, Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and child development centres across the UK and Europe with 2,500 children and adults benefiting from the programme so far.
It is our aim to provide access to the MOVE Programme for every child and adult throughout the UK who are able to benefit from it, allowing them to gain independent mobility to the best of their ability in order to lead the healthiest and happiest lives possible
All proceeds from this sponsored event will go towards helping us to implement the MOVE Programme in as many areas as possible to reach as many children as possible.
Movement is the cornerstone to learning – we learn by exploring the world around us. It’s easy to take for granted the basic movements that most of us make every day – giving someone a hug, going to the toilet or even just holding our head up to look out of the window.
For about 110,000 severely disabled children in the UK and a million across Europe and for many more adults, even these basic actions are difficult. That’s not to say they are impossible. Many of these children and adults just need the chance to MOVE.

Watching the excitement and energy of a sponsored firewalking event invariably makes people want to find out more about the art and science of firewalking; it's history, how it is possible and what happens on the actual night of an event. With this in mind, the events company Time4Change have compiled a generic frequently asked questions document which can be read on-line follow this link
A frequently asked questions document specific to this event can be downloaded through the link at the bottom of the page.
After you have imagined just how good it will feel to take part in the MOVE Europe Firewalk; all you have to do to ensure your place on the walk is contact Amy Hannagan or Stephen King at the above numbers/email/address or alternatively you can instantly download the application form at the bottom of the page, print it off and return them to the address provided.
How much do I need to raise so I can participate in this event?
To secure your place on the firewalk, MOVE Europe is asking each participant to provide a £50 deposit cheque (on the understanding this will only be cashed should you fail to turn up on the night of the event). We are asking you to agree raise a minimum of £60 in sponsorship and agree to a fundraising target of £120 (though obviously we encourage you to raise far more!)
We provide you with information sheets,
posters (to put up for example on your workplace notice board), web flyers and
sponsor forms. These are available either through Amy Hannagan or Stephen King, alternatively by downloading from the buttons at the bottom of the page and printing them off yourself.
We
also suggest you direct your sponsors to this web page and the video
through emails or mobile texts (just copy the URL "www.t4c.org.uk/move") so they can see for themselves exactly what you are undertaking in aid of charity. You can also download a web flyer to put up on your Facebook and/or Myspace account (see below)
Note: All cheques should be made payable to "MOVE Europe"
MOVE EUROPE JUST GIVING WEBSITE
In addition to the traditional sponsorship sheet, a way of saving lots of time and energy collecting sponsorship money is to go to the website (on the link above) and create your own personal fundraising account, which takes about five minutes to do. This consists of an individual web page complete with details of the fundraising event (don't forget to add the link to this page as well).
You then email the page's address to everyone you know and people can sponsor you by making an electronic payment via credit/debit card or PayPal direct to MOVE Europe
(this way you do not have to either collect sponsorship monies yourself or arrange to pass onto MOVE).
It's very quick and easy and in addition to this, Just Giving automatically collects Gift Aid on behalf of each charity (under the Gift Aid scheme, charities can reclaim an extra 28% in tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer which makes for every £1 you donate MOVE will receive an extra 28p). The Gift Aid option is also included on the printed sponsor forms.

In addition to this, many companies now offer matching sponsorship and will donate an amount equal to what you raise personally to the charity concerned. Why not find out if the company or organisation you work for offers this. It's a great way to boost the amount you raise!

Not only is this a once in a lifetime experience, compared to other ‘extreme’ events such as sponsored parachuting or trekking abroad, both the amounts you are required to raise and the initial costs are far lower (which means a bigger percentage of what you raise goes straight to MOVE Europe) Firewalking is such an ‘unusual’ activity that people are not only more willing to sponsor an individual who is taking part in a fundraising firewalk; they are far more likely to offer higher levels of sponsorship.
