Derbyshire Association for the Blind & Time4Change
In association with the University of Derby Student's Union
Presents the 2010 Charity Firewalk
  Tuesday 4th May 2010

Do something extraordinary this year and learn from the UK's leading firewalk experts Time4Change how to safely walk across a fifteen to twenty foot bed of red hot wooden coals! At the same raise vital funds for Derbyshire Association for the Blind.

To secure your free place on what is possibly the shortest sponsored walk in the world just agree to meet a minimum fundraising target of only £120. It really is that simple!

This will be Derbyshire Association for the Blind's third sponsored firewalk in the space of little over a year. The first event took place at Market Place in Derby City Centre on March 25th 2009 with fourty brave volunteers raising an incredible £4000! The second event took place last November with the help of Derby City Council's Derby Live & radio station RAM FM. This event, at the Markeaton Park Firewalk Display in Derby was another great success, attracting over thirty brave firewalkers and again raising nearly £4000! We hope this year's event will be just as good as the last two and with your help it could be even bigger and better than ever before!

Walking over hot wooden coals may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of all the ways you can raise funds for Derbyshire Association for the Blind. However, experience shows that 'firewalking on a sponsored template' can generate a tremendous amount of revenue in a single evening. So whether you are interested in participating in the firewalk itself, planning to come along to support the event or sponsoring an individual who takes part, you will be directly supporting the work of Derbyshire Association for the Blind in the community.

If you have yet to experience the true excitement and energy of a sponsored firewalk event, watch the videos below

Note: Sometimes due to high bandwidth demands, the videos can take a few moments to load. If this is the case, press the pause button and wait a few moments.

Watching the excitement and energy of a sponsored firewalking event invariably makes people want to find out more about the science of firewalking; it's history, how it is possible and what happens on the actual night of an event. With this in mind, the events company Time4Change have compiled a generic frequently asked questions document which can be read on-line follow this link

A frequently asked questions document specific to this event can be downloaded through the button at the bottom of the page.

Once you have imagined just how good it will feel to take part in this event; all you have to do to ensure your place is contact the D.A.B.'s event manager Robin Toal at the above number/email or alternatively you can instantly download the application and other forms at the bottom of the page, print them off and return them to the address provided.

You can also download a JPEG web flyer at the bottom of the page & put it up on your Facebook or MySpace page along with a few lines asking your friends and family for sponsorship. You can also send it to friends as an attachment in an email telling them exactly what an amazing feat you are undertaking for charity.

Even if you are unable to participate, you would be directly supporting the event simply by sending this web-page link (www.t4c.org.uk/dab) to everyone in your email address book along with a couple of lines asking them to visit this web-page.

How much do I need to raise so I can participate in this event?

The Derbyshire Association for the Blind is asking each participant to provide a £10* registration fee (or £5 each if you take advantage of the 'two for one' offer) and agree to a further fundraising target of £120 (though obviously we encourage you to raise far more!)

*If you are currently a University of Derby student we are offering free registration

Note: All cheques should be made payable to "DAB Ltd"

JUST GIVING WEBSITE - A GREAT WAY OF COLLECTING SPONSORSHIP ON-LINE

In addition to collecting sponsorship using the traditional 'sponsor form', you can also create your own online web page to collect sponsorship through the Just Giving website. This is a great way to raise extra sponsorship money. It takes about five minutes to create your personalised web-page address which you then mail out to everyone in your email address book.

Just Giving also operates the government backed Gift Aid scheme which means out of every ten pounds you raise in sponsorship, around twelve pounds will go to the Derbyshire Association for the Blind. The other great thing about creating a personalised Just Giving account is the fact all the sponsorship collected goes straight to the DAB Charity which means no challenges collecting any outstanding sponsorship monies.

The easiest way to create your Just Giving personal web-page is to go to the DAB Just Giving account and set up a page from there. click here

 *******************************************************************************************

Not only is this a once in a lifetime experience, compared to other ‘extreme’ events such as sponsored parachuting or trekking abroad, both the amounts you are required to raise and the initial costs are far lower (which means a bigger percentage of what you raise goes straight to the Derbyshire Association for the Blind). Firewalking is such an ‘unusual’ activity that people are not only more willing to sponsor an individual who is taking part in such an unusual event; they are far more likely to offer higher levels of sponsorship.

It is also worth bearing in mind that a comparable firewalk experience with American 'firewalk guru' Tony Robbins will personally cost you seven or eight hundred pounds! Not only that, people who have tried both always say the Time4Change firewalk lanes are far longer, far wider and much more ferocious!
